My older sister, Lydia Cantu Heath, was an excellent example to us, her family. She was loving, giving, thoughtful & considerate. Lydia was a good person in every aspect & her strong faith never faltered. She loved life & lived it to the fullest, unlike many who take this precious gift for granted. What I remember most is her beautiful smile, big dimples & the way she never let stresses & problems overwhelm her. Instead, she faced obstacles with patience, determination, and the knowledge & wisdom that life had taught her; "this too, shall pass." She was always giving & doing for her family, friends, students, and for others. Lydia sacrificed a lot from a young age, to assure that her younger brothers & sisters had everything we needed. She took on the role of a mother, caregiver, provider & role model, as Mom & Dad had to work so hard to provide for the family. She taught us well & always fought to better our conditions. Her persistence and determination got our family out of the Labor Camps, and into a home we owned. Her number one priority was always to better the conditions of her family. None of us will ever forget all she did for us. The joys & sorrows we shared. We are truly blessed to have had the best Mom & Dad ever and to have had Lydia's presence & influence in our lives. We will always miss her more than words can express.
