Obituary of Kenneth De Vore
Kenneth H. De Vore (9/21/1916 - 6/7/2011)
Ken De Vore (94) died on June 7, 2011 at Callaway Gardens in Kennewick, Washington.
He was born on September 21, 1916, in Ritzville, Washington to Ralph W. and Iva Loretta (Billington) De Vore. He graduated from Lind High School in 1935.
He married Shirley Watkins on May 7, 1940 at her parent's home in Lind, Washington. The couple lived south of Lind on the Terry farm, where Ken farmed for about twenty years. Ken later bought the Clarence Blair farm between Lind and Kahlotus where he continued his farming occupation until retiring in 1981.
Ken had a life long love of the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping. As a young child he and a friend would ride horses to a lake and camp out to fish. He shared this love of fishing and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed geology, with a real interest in rocks and mining.
Ken was an active member of the Lind Methodist Church, and later, the Lind Community Church. He was a member of the Sandhills Grange, the Masons, the Shriners, and many organizations. He held offices in the Lind Grange Supply and the Kahlotus Elevator Association. He was a Washington State Wheat Grower member as well. He and Shirley traveled a great deal with the Wannigan Trailer Club as well as the AAA Association and the international farmer groups.
He is survived by his daughter Hazel (Ben) Webb; son, Steve (LiRong) De Vore; and twin daughters, Donna (Craig) Kelsey and Dianna (Paul) Seuberlich; and 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; twin sisters, Lola Bull and Louise Ladwig.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Iva De Vore; sisters, Lucille and Hazel; brothers, Raymond, Delmar and Lloyd; and his wife Shirley,
Memorial services will be held June 25, 2011, at the Lind Community Church, 114 E. 5th Avenue, Lind, Washington at 11 A.M.
