Guyla Wigen Obituary

Wigen, Guyla Louise (73) was born June 17, 1937 to Irvin (Bus) Swarts & Thelma Longmeier Swarts. In 1938 her mother and siblings passed away during childbirth. She went to Lind Schools, graduated from Ritzville in 1983 and attended Spokane Community College. In 1954 she married Francis Kurkowski and they had 2 children: Francis "Skip" Kurkowski and Cheryl (Kurkowski) Haase. In 1980 she married Richard "Dick" Wigen and became stepmother to Tony, Robert, Angela and Lynnette. Guyla worked for Dr. James Jardee as a medical assistant for nearly 30 years. Although she worked many other jobs, this was her calling. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary; she bowled, read thousands of books and loved to travel. Guyla passed on May 28, 2011 after a long battle with the debilitating disease rheumatoid arthritis. She is survived by her husband Dick, daughters Cheryl (Jim) Haase, Angela Stumpf, Lynnette (Doug) Munk and sons Skip (Tiffany) Kurkowski, and Tony Wigen, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Robbie. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ritzville, Washington June 3, 2011 at 10am. Internment will follow at the Lind Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.danekasfuneralhome.org
