Obituary of Dennis Greenwalt

Please share a memory of Dennis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dennis J. Greenwalt, a life-long resident of Ritzville, passed away peacefully at home on August 14th, 2023. He was 79. The first of three boys, Dennis was born on May 25th, 1944 to John and Esther Greenwalt. Upon returning home from his service in Vietnam, Dennis occupied his time farming, bartending and driving trucks. Service, in and of itself, was Dennis’ greatest attribute: Whether it was his family, friends or even strangers, Dennis always was there selflessly doing what he could to help. But his heart was also always with his other brothers and sisters, those who served in the military due to his experiences in Vietnam. To that end, he and a group of likeminded individuals created the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sgt. Gerald A. Kulm Post No. 11446 in 1992, to serve Ritzville and the greater Adams County area. Dennis served as an Officer for the Post during its entire existence including as its Commander as well as serving on a District level while also being the Service Officer for Adams County, in addition to being a member of the local American Legion post including as an Officer over the years; all in addition to his full-time work, always advocating for and serving the needs of all veterans. After retiring from truck driving and when not focusing on veteran’s issues or indulging in his love of Rodeos and all things Western on television, Dennis could be found participating in his favorite pastime: Playing against and accusing his computer of cheating in poker and the various other card and casino games that he thoroughly enjoyed. Dennis will be missed, but he and his legacy will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Iris, his son Dion (Jenora), stepson Michael, his brothers Mike (Jo) and Rick (Beth) and his numerous nephews and nieces and their families. A private ceremony will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. In Memorial donations can be made to Adams County Pet Rescue.
