Obituary of Francis Hilmes
Francis "Bud" Jerome Hilmes age 84, of Othello, Washington passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on March 20, 2011.
Bud was born in Paola, Kansas to John H. and Dorothy M. Hilmes on January 18, 1927. He grew up in Ransom, Kansas after moving from their home in Paola.
After graduating from high school in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Okinawa, Japan. In 1948, he and Rosanne Willour were married. In 1952 they moved to the Columbia Basin region of Washington State in order to pursue Bud's dream of owning a farm. They settled in rural Othello where they and their eight children enjoyed their country home, summer vacations, camping and Sunday outings.
After retiring, Bud and Rosanne enjoyed traveling in their motor home. While wintering in Arizona and California, shuffleboard became one of Bud's favorite pastimes. As a Grandfather, he had a gift for telling stories; captivating family members both young and old.
He is survived by his wife, Rosanne; children: Evanne Hilmes of Othello;
Laurie Muhlhauser (Larry) of La Quinta, CA; David Hilmes of Othello; Linda Olson of Bellevue, WA; Dorothy Waters (Doug) of The Dalles, OR; Christy Pommerer (Jim) of Thornton, CO; Tim Hilmes (Brandi) of Pasco, WA and Carol Calder (John) of Moses Lake, WA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Christian Calzadillas of Miami Beach, FL; Scott Cardenas (Lisa) of Everett, WA; Tiffany Cardenas of La Quinta, CA; Ryan Pommerer of Thornton, CO; Caitlin Jackson, Rayen and Whitley Hilmes, all of Pasco, WA; Melissa, Morgan and Jordan Calder, all of Moses Lake, WA; and great-grandchild, Dylan Cardenas of Everett, WA.
Bud is also survived by sisters Mary Klitzke (Max) of Ellis, KS and Loretta Ummel (Bob) of Lindsay, OK; brothers: Marvin L. Hilmes (Linda) of Othello; Robert L. Hilmes (Judy) of Yakima, WA; Ronald W. Hilmes (Janeth) of Troy, MT; Loren D. Hilmes (Donna) of Othello, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Hilmes and sisters, Johnetta Matter and Mildred Keller; brothers, Chester, Harold and Steven Hilmes and Son-in-law, Greg Calzadillas.
Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Church of the Nazarene, Othello, WA, a viewing and visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the Celebration of Life to begin at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will immediately follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens.
