Larry Bray

Obituary of Larry Bray

Larry Herbig Bray was born December 18, 1934, in Syracuse, Kansas to Roll & Addie Bray. He died November 25 in hospice care at Avalon Care Center with his wife, Sharon, by his side. After attending St. John's Military School in Salina, Kansas, he joined his family in Othello, Washington and graduated from Othello High School in 1954. After graduation, he joined the US Army and was veteran of the Korean War. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands during Operation Red Wing. He worked in construction and as a farm laborer. In 1968 he was hired by the Othello City Maintenance Department and retired after 29 years of service. In retirement, he was able to indulge in his belief of civic service. He was a city councilman and a Lions Club member and officer. He also served on the Housing Authority Board. He was proud of their most recent project, La Segura Farm Labor Housing. Two other favorite projects were the Othello Cancer Support Group whose funds and supplies are used locally in support of cancer patients and families and the development of Taggares Park - from a field of grass to soccer fields, basketball courts, picnic areas and walking paths. Its community use brought him great joy. Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon Rae Ervin Bray, their son, Joshua Miles (Amanda), one grandson, Bowen Royal (Orville, Washington) and a sister, Blythe Caw (Othello). In his memory, donations may be made to Lions Club - Taggares Park Project (P.O.Box 327); Othello Cancer Support Group (830 Meadowlark Lane); or your favorite civic project. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 30, at 3:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church Othello, Washington. Funeral arrangements are in care Danekas Funeral Home (Othello).
