Obituary of Doris Y Aikins

Doris Yvonne Aikins, 89, of Odessa, Washington, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, surrounded by her children. Doris was born in Tacoma, Washington, on May 30, 1932, to Theron and Rowena Burrington. She was the youngest of five children. Doris married Donald Shaw on May 7, 1951, in Goldendale, Washington. They started their family on April 7, 1953, with a beautiful daughter named Becky. Over the years they were blessed with seven more children, four boys and three more girls. She had her hands full of housework and her heart full of love for her family. In 1961 the family moved to a farm in Yakima, Washington, and soon after to a farm in George, Washington, where they raised rabbits and chickens. Mom loved living on the farm and raising animals. The family then moved to Ephrata, Washington, where they attended the Assembly of God church. Mom loved being a Sunday School teacher and singing in the choir. Doris and Don divorced in 1966 after 15 years of marriage. In 1970, she met Jim Aikins and they were married on April 30, 1971. Jim worked for the railroad in Ephrata and was transferred to Ellensburg, Washington, in 1972. They purchased a large home where Mom loved spending countless hours working in her flowerbeds. Our entire neighborhood was like one big, happy family. Mom built lifelong friendships with her neighbors and church families wherever she lived. Mom loved collecting and restoring dolls. She made a sign that read, "Dory's Doll Orphanage" and placed it on the fence. Jim and Doris remained in Ellensburg for almost 30 years, until Jim passed away in 2000. Mom moved to Odessa, Washington, in 2002, to be near family. Doris is survived by her sons, Rocky (Tamie) Shaw of Odessa, Washington; Rick Shaw of Ephrata, Washington; and Rusty Shaw of Odessa, Washington; daughters Sindy Howell of Silvana, Washington; Conny Greenwalt of Odessa, Washington; and Lorry (Jerry) Pearce of Stratford, Washington; stepson Bert Aikins and stepdaughters Rita Bucknell and Cherl DeFazio, all of Spokane, Washington; 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter on the way, and numerous nephews and nieces who adored her. Doris is preceded in death by her parents Theron and Rowena Burrington; husband Jim Aikins; brothers Burt Burrington and Robert Burrington; sisters Eunice Connon and Phyllis Plesha; daughter Becky Herron; son Ronny Shaw; and grandson Jeremy Shaw.
