Obituary of Darrell F Evans
Darrell Floyd Evans went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2020. He passed away at home surrounded by family. Darrell was born in Ritzville in 1933 to Homer and Mildred (Anderson) Evans. He was the oldest of 5 siblings. He attended school in Ralston the 1st through 8th grades, then attended and graduated from Ritzville High School. While there he met Patricia Thiel.
They were married May on May 7, 1955. In June they moved to Chicago to attend the DeVry Technical Institute. Their first child was born there. After graduating from that program they moved back to Ritzville. They had 3 more children. He worked for farmers in the Washtucna area then moved back to Ritzville in 1968 to farm North West of town. Darrell enjoyed farming and was known to be able to fix anything. The family attended the Ritzville Assembly of God church. He led the Royal Rangers club in Lind Assembly and started the soap box derby races.
In 1988 the family moved back to Patricia’s family homestead to farm there. Eventually most of the land went into the CRP program and he had time for his interests which included his grandchildren, Ritzville Classic Car, Club Civil War Reenactment, and restoring old things. He could always be found helping others in the community, working at the fair as superintendent of the antique machinery, working in his shop or eating cookies or any of his other hidden goodies. He never hid the wrappers so it was not really a secret. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Thiel Evans, and his children Debbie (Kevin) Waite, Ronald (Laura) Evans, Christine (Rob) Harper and Mark Evans. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren Ashley (Levi) Schenk, Grant Harper, Alisyn and Shaun Waite and siblings Vince (Sheryl) Evans, Nancy Pulham, Roger (Renee) Evans, Patty Cairns and brother -in -law Jerry Thiel and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral services are being held in Ritzville at Danekas Funeral Home, 207 E. Main, Thursday, February 27th at 1:00 pm. Public viewing will be 9-12. Burial will follow at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Flowers accepted or donations can be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Samaritan’s Purse or a charitable organization of your choosing.
