Vernon Dean Sutherland, 87, passed away May 7th in Spokane Wash.  Dean was born Oct. 28, 1930 in Benge, Wash, to William and Gladys (Morgan) Sutherland.  Dean spent his early years in the Benge and Washtucna areas.  He graduated from Washtucna in 1949 and attended the University of Idaho. Dean and Doreen Cameron were married January 27, 1951. They moved to Portland where Dean managed an automotive shop.  In 1961 the family moved back to farm the “ Spuler place”.  Dean was a member of the Lamont Community Church, Lamont Grange Growers, and leader in the Lamont 4-H Club. They moved to the family farm near Washtucna in 1973. Dean was a member of the Washtucna Community Church and Lions Club.  In his retirement he spent many days on the Ritzville Golf Course, and for twelve years ran Bloomsday, and enjoyed being a "Bloomie" Dean was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth 'Bud' Sutherland, and sisters Patsy Chandler and Joan Kenning. He is survived by his wife Doreen, Children:  David Sutherland of Washtucna, Paula Coon of Pullman, Pamela Sutherland of Washtucna, Judy(Jeff) Sitton of St. John, and Susan Sutherland of Bryan, Texas and six grandchildren:  Aisha (Kelly) Hanson of Palmer, Alaska;  Paul (Bridget) Coon of Benge, WA;  Audra (Will) Christianson, of Harrington, WA; Heather  (Jeremiah) Johnson of Spokane Valley, WA;  Jacob (Tracee) Sitton, Washtucna; Wyatt (Lauren)  Sitton of Washtucna, WA. Dean has 17 great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held Monday, May 21st at 11 am in the Washtucna Community Church, followed by a luncheon at the Rimrock Grange Hall.  Interment will be later.
