Obituary of Matthew Joseph Johnson

Matthew Joseph Johnson, 49, passed away on March 22, 2018 after a short, fierce battle with cancer with his sister, Gina, by his side.  Matt was born in Colfax, WA on January 11, 1969.  He was raised in Sprague, WA by his parents, Glen & Mary Johnson.  Matt graduated from Sprague High School in 1987.  After high school, he served in the army and attended WSU.  He loved to tell stories of his time overseas in the military.  Matt married Paula Whitney in 1996 and they had 3 children.  During this time, he started his own trucking business, he enjoyed taking the kids with him sometimes on his trips across the country.  Later, he worked at Ag Enterprises in Cheney and Caterpillar in Spokane.  Matt was blessed to have his children and Chelsea’s family visit shortly before he passed. Matt is survived by his children Mark & grandson Matthew from New Orleans, Maxwell currently stationed at Fort Benning, GA, Glen & Charlie Elizabeth from Sprague; sister, Gina, and her daughter Chelsea (Anthony) from Texas, and uncle, Max from Sprague.  Matt was preceded in death by his parents.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation at https://www.fisherhouse.org/.  Burial to be held at 9am on April 7, 2018 at Macabee Cemetary, followed by funeral service at 10 am at Sprague Lutheran Church, to be followed by a reception and celebration of his life.  To leave condolences please visit www.danekasfh.com.
