Obituary of Irma Eve-Lynne Gfeller

Irma Eve-Lynne Gfeller Irma E. Gfeller passed away August 21 at her home in Lind at the age of 85. She was born on February 8, 1931 in Torrington, Alberta to Emmanuel and Magdalena Bossert and was a 1954 graduate of the school of nursing at the Provincial Health Service in New Westminster, B.C. Irma became an American citizen in 1960 after waiting the required 5 years. Irma married Gale Gfeller in Kamloops, British Columbia on February 16, 1955. They had four children: Gregory Gale (Ruth) Gfeller of Post Falls, ID, Kathryn Joan Marie (Jim) Wilcox of Harrington, WA, Garry Dane (Lisa) Gfeller of Chattaroy, WA, and Pamela Diane (Rodney) Arena of Wenatchee, WA. Irma and Gale settled on the Gfeller farm outside of Lind, WA that was homesteaded by Gale’s Grandfather Gotfried Gfeller. In 2000 they moved to Lind. Irma served as Past President of Conference and Local American Lutheran Church Women and Tredecim Club. She was a past member of the Adams County T.B. Association, Adams County Red Cross, Cub, Boy, Girl Scout and 4-H leader, Director of the Adams County Fair and the Wheat Land Communities Fair. She was also a past Secretary of the Adams County Historical Society, Adams County Wheat Growers Domestic Utilization Chairman, and served on the Washington State Centennial Committee in 1989. Irma also worked four years as a hospice volunteer in Lind and the surrounding communities. Her husband, her parents and several brothers and sisters preceded Irma in death. Irma enjoyed playing bridge, reading, genealogy, wheat weaving, and spending time at the family Priest Lake cabin. Most of all Irma enjoyed spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her brother, Edwin (Ricki) Bossert, her children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a soon to be new great grandchild survive Irma. A celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at the Lind Cemetery on Friday, August 26 at 2:00 PM, followed by a luncheon in Lind. The family would like to thank the Lind community who always treated ‘Mom’ as their family and helped her with anything she needed. Special thanks to Sharon, Tonia, Augustina, Julie, her neighbors, the Fields’, and Jim’s Market for the extra care and compassion they showed for our mother.
