Obituary of Roy Mears

A 31 year resident of Othello, Roy Jefferson Mears, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 in his home at the age of 87. Roy was born August 20, 1925 in Slick City, Oklahoma. When he was 18 years old, Roy was drafted into the U.S. Army where he was eventually transferred to Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, WA. It was there that he met his wife of 68 years, Gloria Adams Brandow. They were married in May of 1945 and had three children. Roy's work experience has mostly been in customer service and he enjoyed working with the public very much. He worked at various places through the years, including: Darigold in Eugene, Oregon; Anthony's Department store in Dayton, WA; Mears' Department Store in Dayton, WA; Akins Food in Connell, WA; Desert Deli in Othello, WA; Desert Auto in Othello, WA; Sears in Othello, WA and finally Berks Refrigeration in Othello, WA. Roy just recently stopped working full time in the fall of 2012 because he enjoyed it so much. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Mears of Othello, WA; brother Gene Mears of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister Lotti Morris of Houston, Texas; son Barry Mears of Moses Lake, WA; daughter Debbie Weaver of Othello, WA; six granddaughters and six great grandchildren. Roy enjoyed his family very much. He was a generous, kind, loving man and faithful servant of God who loved a good laugh. Not only was he a good husband and great dad, but he was also a wonderful grandfather to all six of his granddaughters. His sense of humor and playful, joking way of teasing will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Roy is going to be missed tremendously by family and friends.
