Dorothy Maier Obituary
Dorothy Maier was born November 6, 1929 in Ritzville Washington to Paul and Emma Geschke. She grew up on the family homestead in the Packard area and was the first of four generations to attend Ritzville school graduating in 1947. After graduation she was employed by the telephone company in Ritzville and began dating Robert Maier from Lind. In 1949 they were married and built a home from the Sears catalogue in the golf course addition in Ritzville. After the telephone company she was employed by Big Bend Electric until her retirement. She and husband Bob enjoyed time at Badger and Williams Lakes and numerous trips to the Hawaiian Islands. Dorothy loved to read, was an avid shopper and enjoyed that activity with her friends and family. She was an animal lover and always had a soft spot for any cat or dog that needed a helping hand.
Dorothy was very involved with her grandchildren and belonged to several civic organizations. After her husband's passing in 2016 she moved to a retirement community in Spokane where she made new friends, attended church and enjoyed big city life.
She is survived by son Eric and daughter-in-law Pamela. She had two grandchildren, Adriana (Adrian Espindola) of Spokane and Zach (Kayli Maier) of Ritzville. Her five grandchildren included AJ, Brandtly, Alex, Audrey and Amelia. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Emma, husband Bob and brothers Donnie and Bob Geschke.
A public remembrance display will be set up at Danekas Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 23 from noon to 3pm where friends and family are welcome to visit. A private graveside service is planned for immediate family at a later date. Dorothy had a strong faith and after many health related issues in recent years she is now at peace and has joined her beloved Bobby.
