Sara Marie Kite Goude entered eternal rest August 3, 2025, in Walla Walla. The daughter of Howard and Lena Kite, Sara was born in Forest City, Missouri, on September 30, 1930. The family moved to Washtucna in 1944, where she attended Washtucna Schools, graduating in 1949. Sara married Millard Goude on July 6, 1957, and together they raised their 3 boys, James, David and Paul on the cattle farm on Cow Creek near Hooper. They divorced in 1994. As well as taking great pride in raising her family, caring for her family home, (which always had a faithful companion kitty), Sara had many hobbies, skills and interests. She was a hard worker and through the years became a master gardener and raised chickens, often hosting butchering and canning parties with her mother Lena and sister Joyce. Sara was an avid bowler and for many years sponsored her own team, Sara’s Country Store. She was a gifted seamstress, making denim quits for her children, grandchildren and family members. Along with making quilts, knitting and embroidery, Sara also did upholstery with her sister. She enjoyed playing games with friends and family, especially enjoying her many excursions to Northern Quest Casino with friends. Sara worked and later managed the McGregor Store in Hooper from 1966 until its closure in 1978. She opened Sara’s Country Store in 1978 which became a beloved gathering place for locals, closing in 2002 upon her retirement. In late 2005, Sara was united with Hugh Shawgo in whom she found the love of her life, until his passing in 2012. Sara is survived by her children, James and wife Amy of Colbert, and their children Jim, Kevin, Carl and Corinne; David and his wife Connie and their son Ryan of Walla Walla; Paul of Hooper and his children Zachary, Jordon, Amber and Jena as well as 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Kite and numerous nephews and nieces. Sara was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Cathy Goude; siblings Ronald Kite, Joyce Stordahl and Kenneth Kite; as well as Hugh Shawgo. Sara’s gentle and loving nature will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We are all better for having had her in our lives. A burial service will be at the Washtucna Cemetery at 10:00 on Saturday, September 20. A memorial service at the Washtucna Community Church will be at 11:00. This will be followed by a potluck meal at the old McGregor Store in Hooper. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Sara’s honor.
